Fairfax, VA - The Independent Educational Consultants Association Foundation today announced the appointment of educational consultant Joseph (Jody) Dobson of Philadelphia to its Board of Trustees.
“The mission of the IECA Foundation is to create, support, and empower programs that have the greatest impact on students and their educational environment,” said Brooke Dudley, president of the Foundation Board of Directors. “The Foundation is the vehicle that allows educational consultants and other counselors to assist children and families who do not have access to educational planning services. Jody’s 30-plus years’ experience working with children and their families makes him an excellent addition to the Foundation Board, and we look forward to his valuable insights.”
Dobson has taught at elementary, middle, and high school levels, and has served in numerous administrative positions. He has been in practice as an independent

educational consultant since 1998. His practice, Dobson Educational Services, is located in Chestnut Hill, and focuses on families who are seeking to understand their children’s educational needs. Dobson helps them find the schools that are best equipped to meet those needs - locally, nationally, or internationally, day schools or boarding schools. His office is also an Independent Test Center for the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT.)
The Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) was founded in 1976 as a non-profit, professional association of established educational consultants. Member consultants work with clients on a wide range of educational issues, including college placement, private day and boarding school options, programs for at-risk children, and students with learning disabilities or special needs.
The IECA’s national fall conference will be held in Philadelphia November 13-16, 2005, making the appointment of the Board’s first Philadelphia resident particularly timely.
The IECA Foundation was founded in 1996 to support the mission and expand the role of the IECA. Through its grant-giving program, the Foundation funds projects that enhance a student’s ability to learn, help students make sound educational choices, and provide training for students to become leaders in their schools and communities. The Foundation also sponsors professional development opportunities for consultants and counselors, and examines and disseminates research that helps counseling professionals better serve children with diverse backgrounds and needs.
