Jody Dobson

G1008 Jody pursued a career in education right out of college, working with kids and their families for over thirty years at four nationally-respected independent schools.
In addition to teaching at the elementary, middle and high school levels, Jody also served in administrative positions as Director of Admission, Director of School Placement, Head of Middle School and English Department Head. He has a BA from Williams College and an MA from Columbia University Teachers College.
Jody started Dobson Educational Services in 1998, driven by the feeling that his knowledge and experience could help families make sound choices for their children's educational and social/emotional needs.

RUBY LAUFER

G146 Ruby joined Dobson Educational Services in 2008 bringing with her the unique perspective of 20 years’ experience in the mental health field as an occupational therapist.
Ruby’s experience in the therapeutic world complements Jody’s background in education.
As a therapist, Ruby approaches each of her clients with empathy and sensitivity to their individual needs. She works with children, adolescents, and young adults with a wide range of therapeutic concerns and learning differences. She has first-hand experience with autism spectrum disorders, having successfully navigated therapeutic and school placements for her own child. Ruby understands the importance of compassion and trust when working with families in crisis, who are worried and confused about how to move forward.

Ruby is a professional member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and a member of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP), the Asperger Autism Spectrum Education Network (ASPEN), and the Two River Friends of Different Learners.

Ruby graduated magna cum laude from Boston University with a degree in Occupational Therapy. Ruby started her career as an occupational therapist in inpatient psychiatry at San Francisco General Hospital. She then spent many fulfilling years in community mental health at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital in Boston, first as the Director of Vocational Services and later as the Coordinator of the Day Hospital Program. After moving to NJ, Ruby returned to inpatient psychiatry at Centrastate Medical Center before beginning her career as an educational consultant.
Ruby lives in Little Silver, NJ with her three children. She travels extensively to get to know first-hand the many programs  and schools she works with across the country.
